G7 Leaders Blasts Iran’s Nuclear Aspirations
(MENAFN) At their summit in Canada on Monday, the heads of the Group of Seven (G7) nations strongly condemned Iran’s nuclear aspirations amid escalating turmoil in the Middle East. The coalition, comprising Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, issued a firm declaration emphasizing that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons.
"Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror,” the leaders stated, spotlighting Tehran as the chief driver of unrest in the region.
They underscored their unwavering stance: "We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon."
Affirming their dedication to peace, the G7 leaders reinforced Israel’s right to self-defense in the tense environment. "In this context, we affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel," they declared.
The statement also stressed the critical need to protect innocent civilians caught in the conflict’s crossfire.
“We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza," the group added, calling for calm in the volatile region.
The G7 coalition pledged to closely monitor the situation’s impact on global energy markets and affirmed their readiness to collaborate in maintaining stability amid ongoing disruptions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced he would cut short his stay at the summit to return to Washington, DC, citing the escalating Middle East tensions. "I have to be back early for obvious reasons," Trump told reporters.
Earlier, Trump issued a stark warning to civilians in Tehran, urging an immediate evacuation amid the rising conflict between Israel and Iran. On his Truth Social platform, he said, "Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life.
Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! "
"Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!" he added.
The flare-up in hostilities erupted last Friday when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes and drone attacks targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Tehran retaliated with strikes of its own, intensifying the dangerous cycle of conflict in the region.
